god damn mongolians, try to knock down my shitty (city) wall

Saturday, June 19, 2004 by Daren Darrow

Today was exhausting. As usual, my plans have to take the backseat due to whatever Ryan happens to pull out of his ass that day and wants to do. I ended up hauling rock from some place in Macville to build a retaining wall in the back of the house for some new garden thats being built. I thought I had done well staying out of that crap this week, there was a sod cutter etc, I just didn't want anything to do with it. Not to meantion having this bitch-ass freaking sinus thing going on. Tired, can't beath and body aches all the time. Oh can't forget about the non-stop nasal drip'age.

I had planned on going to Alltel and activating a Sprint phone that I unlocked and hacked the rom. Going shopping for some clothes and comming back and fixing one or more of the issues with my iBook (damn drama queen equipment), one thing breaks and then 3 things. Not fun. Then working on either building a new temp. dns server with Darwin or working on my MythTV box/project.

I managed to get the Alltel thing, shopping and lunch at Quiznos in before getting suckered into "Going with me to drop off the sod cutter and empty my truck at the store." Next thing I know I'm at the rock place, oogling rock. We left, no rock. Ok, he was just looking. No, apparently me breathing was consent for me to be volunteered to go get rock and help him. Does he bother to ask if I have plans today? no. Of course not. Why the hell should he care. The sad thing is that I go along with it, only because it's easier. I'm tired of this shit and don't want to deal with more. I just count down the days till I leave.

I've been volunteered (along with his brother) to go help him get more rock. I'm not too happy about it, neither is Erik, but neither has said anything yet. I did get a good bitch session in with Steph today when he and Erik went to Dairy Queen. I didn't realize I had bottled so much stuff up today, but apparently I did. But it was good to get it off my chest, and find out the newest shit that is said about me behind my back by Ryan and his Grandmother. The hate grows stronger.

I think its funny, my brother likes Ryan. But he, like Michael, had commented that if he would have stayed longer, he might have had to kill him.

It's sad. I've started dreaming about being back in Stillwater. Not really sad, I will be away from this crap. But the sad part is that I'm romanticizing it. I hope I don't gear myself up for too much other than relief of being back with friends I care about.

I spent the last two days learning about Sprint phones and how to unlock them and do other cool shit with them. I unlocked a Sanyo SCP-4900 that was laying around, and got it activated on Alltel today. I'm quite proud of myself on that one. A datacable and a little research goes a long way. Now I'm working on editing to NVRAM to change all the Sprint stuff to say Alltel.

Next Saturday starts my vacation. June 26 - July 6. mmm goodness. I want to go to Oklahoma, but doubt I will have the money. No way in hell am I staying here for all that time though. I think i'm going to talk to Amie about spending the week with her in Chicago. Go down with Ryan next weekend, he can leave on Sunday and I'll stay, and hopefully Amie will want to come to WI for the Fourth, and she can bring me back.

I need to run that by her.

Convince/persuade redux

Thursday, June 17, 2004 by Daren Darrow

Ok. I think I have figured it out. You would use convince solely in
refering to yourself.
ex: "Ok, I am convinced."

You would use persuade solely in refering to someone else or actions upon
someone else.
ex: "Ok, you've persuaded me"
"They persuaded me to do it."
"I persuaded them to do it."

This brings up another questions. A slang version of convince/persuade is
"nudge."
ex: "I gave him a nudge to make the decision."
"They nudged me to make the decision."

So is nudge slang for convince or persuade, or does it pertain to both?

Convince/persuade

by Daren Darrow

You convince yourself; yet, you persuade others.

So, if someone persuaded me to do something. Would I reply with "Ok, you
convinced me to do it." or "Ok, you persuaded me to do it?"

I allowed myself to be convinced, but it was because of persuasion from
someone else. However, I didn't convince myself, I had help with the
persuasion.

hmm, requires more thought.

Local Law Enforcement Enhancement Act

Wednesday, June 16, 2004 by Daren Darrow

From the HRC

-- [ snip ] --
Yesterday, the U.S. Senate passed the Local Law Enforcement Act passed by an
overwhelming 65 to 33 bipartisan vote. In doing this, the Senate took an
important step toward giving law enforcement the tools they need to
investigate and prosecute hate crimes.

This is a long-awaited and necessary step in the protection of GLBT
Americans from crimes based on their sexual orientation and gender identity.

Yeah! Lets see how far this goes

What is with the cost of plane tickets?

Tuesday, June 15, 2004 by Daren Darrow

I don't understand why plane tickets cost so much now. I can't find
tickets to Oklahoma for under $320.00. I hate to say this, but I miss the
prices that were being offered right after Sept. 11. I was able to fly
roundtrip from OKC to GRB for $120.00. Very nice.

I even managed to fly round trip from ORD to OKC last in April for $139.00,
and I can't find anything near that price now.

Where's Noah when you need him? Hell, even Moses could have helped.

Well this weekend was interesting. Kind of blah most of the time. Spent quite a bit of time outside (working on my farmer tan of course). Saturday night, at like 9 p.m., we decided to go to Chicago to see Amie. Well we got there, it was late. Stayed up even later watching DVDs. I went to bed around 4:30 a.m. and slept till like, ooh noon'ish I think. I got up and like 10 minutes later, Ryan's grandmother calls. It's been raining nonstop and it flooded the basement. Great.

So Ryan freaks out, and of course I'm just so looking forward to this. Since I knew it would start his bitchyness, but amazingly after about 30 min or so, he just calmed down. That's new.

Ended up spending enough time with Amie to go eat breakfast at Ihop and then left to come back to see the damage. It was 2.5 inches of water across the entire basement (which was recently finished off) so it caused damage, but could have been much worse.

Two days or so of having two huge fans and two dehumidifiers down there, pulling out the humidity and drying things. The carpet is dry. Doesn't seem to have done much/anything to the walls. The tile may be screwed, it seems to be coming off the floor (not an easy task for ceramic tile) and the door jams are warped. It looks like their homeowners insurance doesn't cover basement flooding with the existing policy. They've now added it, since it was classified as a sewage backup.

I've managed to get most of my financial issues under control and getting ready for the move back to Oklahoma and back to school. Just a few loose ends to finish up. Hopefully it will be complete within the next month.

I've learned that I've lost like $5,000.00 in financial aid because of withdrawing last year, but I think I've got it covered. It's just going to take more student loans than what I'd really like to have.

I put in my vacation request today. It was approved. I have June 26 - July 6th off. The plan is for me and Ryan to drive to Oklahoma for the 4th. I'll be spending my time in Stillwater, and I assume he will be in Tulsa. I hope it happens, but if not, it's not that big of a thing. Since I will be moving back August 6th.

Oh my fucking gawwwwd

I just discovered this brand, thank you OUT Magazine for the free sample! Oh my gaaaawd is this shit the bomb digity.

Now, It's been awhile since my post were risque, but I'm not usually a person that likes lube (well it has it's uses, just not for umm everyday use). Usually it gets sticky, which sucks and has an odd odor to it. Not this. I would almost call it perfection. I guess because it's silicone based. Awesome job guys. I give you "two penises up" for this one :)

I forgot my body could shudder like that! (ok, bordering on TMI there I guess)

Dixie Chicks

Now Playing: Travelin' Soldier

I don't know what my obsession is with the Dixie Chicks over the past few days. I don't like country, but I listen to them. I've especially become obsessed with Travelin' Soldier and Goodbye Earl.

Wow?

I'm bored at work. I just learned that someone, Brent Perteet,I knew from a few years back is getting married this month. It seems like it's been a decade since I had regular contact with him.

... All I want to say is that they don't really care about us.

Saturday, June 05, 2004 by Daren Darrow

Yes, I'm listening to Michael Jackson, but that's ok. If you think otherwise, then pffft on you!

Today has been relatively uneventful. I got up at 10:30ish when Ryan decided he wanted to wake me up, which is fine, he told me he was going to do that. But we were supposed to go "up north" to get fish or some crap. I didn't care, I was in the mood to drive, so I wanted to go.

Well, I guess something happened to that plan. It took me like 25 min to get up, get dressed, eat and go back outside. By that point, he and his brother were working on a Case tractor(s) they bought. They did that all evening, I think they're still doing it.

I was out there for about an hour, and he started being abrupt toward me and very bitchy-esque. I've had enough of it, he has been a bitch to me for two or more weeks now. So I just came inside. I'm just going to give him the cold shoulder, since it's my turn to be bitchy. It's grating on his nerves already, I can tell, but he hasn't said anything. I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

I've spent time in here trying to decide if I want to replace the carpet in the 1994 Mercury Cougar XR-7 that I got from my brother. Its the main thing in the interior of the car that dates it. It would look much better with cleaner carpet. It would only cost $150.00, but that's not a priority. I need to save money. I think I'm just going to pull the existing carpet out of the car, shampoo it and put it back in. It will just take time and motivation and a sunny day to do that.

I really like the Cougar. I'm having issues adjusting to driving a 10-year old car though, but I keep telling myself that It's all worth it. I just need an adjustment period. I still have the Malibu, but I'm going to drive the Cougar next week, and prob send the Malibu back soon.

The cougar has awesome power, the interior reminds me of my Mustang quite a bit (but its just a Ford thing). I don't think I've every really became "attached" to the Malibu, but I have already attached to the Cougar. I guess I'm just a Ford guy.

My brother has put over 1300 miles on the Stratus since he left here last weekend. He loves the car, and hasn't had an issue with it. It does still have a small oil leak, but he's not concerned about it. Not yet anyway. He fixed the AC and that's about it.

I finally got to see photos of Briele a few weeks ago, hopefully I'll have my photo album up sometime in the near future and add them to it for all to see.

I'm trying to find a way to go to Oklahoma for July 4, but tickets are costing too much so far. I can't justify spending that much, when I'll be there perm about a month after that. I've set a definitely departure date from WI of August 6th or 7th. I'm just going to drive straight through, so I'll be there the night that I leave. I guess I'll crash at Nikki and Chris for that night. They don't know that yet, details, details! heh. Hopefully OSU will let me move in a little early, so I can unload the car and start the process.

I've got to find some DVR for when I move back, since I don't have my ReplayTV anymore. I've been working on building my own, but I've discovered that if I want to watch and record live TV, in real time, I need a pretty powerful processor. So I'd have to buy a motherboard, processor etc, and would cost around $300.00 more. But right now I can buy the same ReplayTV that I had, from Replaytv.com, for $79.00, so I may just do that. Since I know I like it. Monthly service is now $12.99, but I'll prob just spend the $299.00 for the lifetime membership and just be done with it. But I'm still going to play around with building my own, since its cool. Oh, if you want to see what the DVR I'm building would look like (software wise) check out http://www.mythtv.org.

I need food of some sort, I guess I'll stop typing and go do that.

Memorial Day

Tuesday, June 01, 2004 by Daren Darrow

Yeah for a five-day weekend!

Well, it wasn't all fun. My brother and becca were up for the weekend. I was glad to see them. I hadn't seen my brother since the end of Aug. 2003. Becca, I hadn't seen since about the same time, I believe.

I spent quite a bit of time with my brother, of course, while he was here. He actually got me to go to Hooters. I can definatly say that the quality of food isn't what keeps them in business.

Ryan's been bitcy, more than usual. I'm ready to strangle him. I know now, more than ever, that I'm ready to leave. I think i'm going to leave the first part of Aug instead of the middle.

More later.
