Go daddy-O

Sunday, December 26, 2004 by Daren Darrow

I have succumbed to "The Devil" (TM), well, at least one of "The Devil's." I've had to move my Web site to a different hosting server, since my friend Bryan no longer has a server to host me on. I decided to take GoDaddy up on an offer that they e-mailed me about. A free year to transfer my domain and personal hosting for only $3.95/month (no contract) WOW ok, I think I can do that. So I transferred it and voila, it's up and running now.

Christmas was ok. I spent the day with Christopher Norfleet and his family. Mikel had gone home to be with his family, and I had to work so I didn't go home to see mine (one of the reasons.) His family is, uh interesting. They remind me so much of my own that it's freaky. We are having another Christmas, for me the first one, on Thursday when Mikel comes home. Yes, I said it, this is home for me and I think for Mikel as well. I can't wait to see him again, it's been since Wednesday when I saw him last.

Work has been boring. Tonight was dead, I probably did an hour or so worth of work in the 8 hours that I was there. I'm asking tomorrow if I can get the weekend off, so that we can go do something for New Years. They better give it to me. I think I'm also going to let them know that I have applied for a job on campus and may be quitting in mid January to take the job. I had hoped to know by now if I had the job, that way I could give a 2-week notice. But I don't know for certain yet. Cross your fingers!

I finally finished making one of Mikel's Christmas gifts last night. I hope he likes it, I know I like it. I'll post more about what it is, once he opens it ;)

Thursday night is also Krista's 21st birthday, so we will be going out that night and getting her good-and-drunk (sm) heh.

Ok, back to watching Unwrapped

Ya, or something like that.

Ok, It's finals week, and I should be doing more. But I only have one left, and I can't concentrate today. I have, however, managed to eat enough food this week to feed a small village. Damn stress eating!

I woke at around 10 a.m. today, and then I just lay there for the next hour or so with my eyes closed thinking "please, just make it go away," in reference to the day. I knew that once I got up, I would start the process of officially-slacking on my studying.

I have a German final tomorrow, and I have a C- in the class right now. Ugg, dreading that. I managed to do anything and everything from noon till 5:30 p.m. to keep myself from working on it. I've made my study guide and gone through it twice now, is that enough? No, but I can't make myself go over it again.

Mikel is in Tulsa today having fun. God, I want to leave this city and have fun for a change. It feels like it has been so long.

I started reading a new book last night, I bought myself a copy of "How the homosexuals saved civilization". I think it will be a good read.

Christmas is upon us, and I'm poor. I have decided that Mikel gets a gift, and my nieces get something. Other than that, you'll need to fill out a request, in triplicate, and include an essay that in 1500 words (no more, no less) that tells me why you deserve a gift from me.

Being poor sucks. Usually I don't have anything to buy, so I have money. But I have car insurance to pay right now. Blah. Damn that stuff!

There's a party at Nikki and Chris's tomorrow night. So I guess someone there gets my "Dirty Santa" gift. Even I don't know what it is! Gotta love grab bags from Christies Toy Box. (note to self: go buy that soon)

Ok, back to ignoring German.

I was browsing around for Eddie Izzard dvd's today, when I came across and movie that he and Mat LeBlanc are in together. I'd love this for christmas, if there are any takers :)

Synopsis: An American army officer (Mat LeBlanc) leads a mismatched team of British Special Services who must go in disguise as women and infiltrate a female-run Enigma factory in Berlin and bring back the decoding device that will end the war.

Not so dead, dead week

Thursday, December 09, 2004 by Daren Darrow

As some of you may know, at universities, you usually have this thing called "Dead Week" prior to finals week. At many universities you will not have classes or assignments during this week. You simply have the week to study, or not, what ever you wish to do. At OSU we have a dead week, but we still have classes and we still have assignments. So I'm not really sure why we have it.

My dead week is always anything but dead. I have projects due, homework due and is usually the most stressful part of the semester for me. Finals week is always a breeze for me, but dead week kicks my ass.

I have finished most of the week already. I had my German Dialog with my professor today, which was the last major thing that needed to be done prior to the final. I think it went well. Tonight I have my internet communications course, and I present the Web site that I designed in Macromedia Dreamweaver. I decided to make a new Web site for SODA since their existing one sucks. I get to present it tonight, woohoo. I think I made the most complicated site of anyone in the class. I had to give up on some of my design elements because of my inexperience with XHTML and CSS and the time constraints. Most of the people in the class just copied a site we did in lab and customized it more. I'm proud that all of my pages are XHTML 1.x Transition compliant according to the W3C Validator. oh BTW, if you didn't know, IE for Mac OS can fuck off. It's more of a POS than IE for Windows. At least the one on Windows has a somewhat functional CSS Box Element Float support. We were told to ignore IE and just make sure it plays nice with Safari and Firefox (hmm, neener neener to the Windows world!)

The semester is almost over. I have to pick up a take home final tomorrow for my sociology course, and then go to my German II final review and then nothing until Tuesday and Friday. I'm so happy. I'm ready for the semester to be over. It doesn't seem like it has lasted that long, yet it has.

A whole month with nothing to do, other than whatever I want with the occasional torture of working at Wal-Mart thrown in.

At some point, me and Mike will go visit family. I think I'm going to drag him with me when I go, so that we can go visit his friend Paul, who lives like 15 minutes from my brother. He's not going to his family until around Christmas. I think I'm going to avoid it and stay here for Christmas. That should cause an interesting range of emotions.
