Bah taxes

Thursday, January 27, 2005 by Daren Darrow

What ever happened to the days of having a single W2 and having the ability to file the 1040EZ and Standard-Resident State tax form?

Now I get to deal with 3 W2's across two states, 1098-T , 1098-E, 1099-R and two states part-year resident forms (neither of which can be filed by HR Block or Intuit via their Web sites) and trying to figure out the difference between an Education deduction and the Lifetime Learning Tax Credit (because I can't file for both)

I'm still waiting for a W2 from Humana but I found my last pay stub and used it to guestimate so that I could find out if I am going to have to pay in or not. Good news is, at least for federal, I get a refund. What amount? Not a bad amount, not as good as last year but not bad. I'll know for certain next week I hope.

OOOH. I also have to wait for my HarrisDirect tax statement. This is where my IRA and Brokerage are at. I'm not sure what it will have on it, but they aren't sending them out until Feb., and they won't be available online until Feb 14. So I may have to wait past that date to complete the filing.

*sigh*

Veggies

by Daren Darrow

If I bitch about it, it will come!

This is the menality that I am keeping when trying to get more vegeterian options on campus, and especially in Stout Coffe (Since I live here and eat here more often).

It is so difficult to eat healthy on this campus. All meat, all fat, all blah and all expensive. They are raising food costs either this semester or next, yet we get less options (they just closed two resturants) and cheaper-quality food.

Time for me to start my lobbying efforts.

I think i'm going to get the Seretean Wellness Center and the Wellness floors of Suite A/B involved. I want a meeting/conference for students and faculty with University Dining to get heatlhy food and vegeterian options.

Huh?

It's entirely too damn early!

Enough said.

Some things make me hate Christians, even more

Friday, January 21, 2005 by Daren Darrow

According to a CNN article some believe that Sponge Bob will make children gay. Well, without regard to the fact that "Sponge Bob" just sounds like a squishy sex toy to me, I don't see the big deal.

The video is there to encourage ALL tolerance and diversity. Apparently, this video should be shown to more "conservative Christian groups" so that they will stop discriminating against animated sea creatures.

Insomnia

by Daren Darrow

I'm not exactly sure when it stops being restlessness and becomes insomnia, but I'm sure I'm on the cusp of it becomming insomnia.

I took this time to create my new-book wishlist and then realized that I went to every book on amazon and got the link to make this post, but didn't add the books to my Wishlist there. Damn me.

Oh well, here they are.

Seth in Boston

Wednesday, January 19, 2005 by Daren Darrow

Seth in Boston, for some reason triggers my mind to think "Sex in the City." Sadly, from his own admission on his blog that probley isn't the case very often.

Seth didn't remember my AIM name when I messaged him today, so I had some fun with it.

I just can't keep the straight men off me, they all want a peice!

Daren Darrow: remember me? or need more clarification?
Pope On a Bomb: yea, i remember you
Daren Darrow: damn. and I had pictures of an ape and a map of french guinea to send you.
Pope On a Bomb: i have a picture of you somewhere on my computer from Nikki's christmas party.
Daren Darrow: ah, and one from annas from halloween
Daren Darrow: you have many of me.
Daren Darrow: Stalker! I'm taken!
Pope On a Bomb: yes, i am secretly your stalker.
Daren Darrow: ok, i'm having an eratic day, but that makes me fun.
Pope On a Bomb: I wanted it to seem otherwise, so I moved to Boston.
Daren Darrow: ah yes, i see you master plan.
Daren Darrow: I want to some day end up in Boston, but you are there before me. You are setting up your cell of stalkers so that you can provide 24/7/365 Daren stalking.

Ah yes, the smell of a new post in the morning

Tuesday, January 18, 2005 by Daren Darrow

It's been an interesting few days. Classes have began anew with a full-new semester awaiting me. I challenge it to intimidate me! Ok, not really. I don't need anything more on my plate.

Daniel and Stephanie were in town this weekend, they left Monday morning for Colorado Springs, CO. He is out of tech school now and was stationed there. I wish them luck. They don't have a place to stay yet, although they have free housing on base for a short-period of time. Stephanie also hasn't find a job yet. She has several engineering degrees but not the required years of experience that all the firms in that area want. Perhaps she can get one anyway.

Tonight was my first night, alone, working the Stout Desk. Fun times. Ok, not really. It was quite boring. For just four-hours of work, I took an unimaginable number of books with me, my CD case (which I never listen to and only recently found) and my iPodand an FM Modulator. I didn't get nearly as much homework done as I should have for four hours. I guess it's because I had more fun talking to people, Mikel was there and later Chris dropped by.

I applied for more financial aid to cover my semester. Since I had spent the year in Wisconsin, I lost over $5500.00 in financial aid that I previously had. This causes a problem. I've managed to limit it to being negative $1300.00, but I have to get it taken care of. And I want to buy a new Mac Mini. So I've jumped through all the hoops to try and get another loan, now I just wait until the Financial Aid Office processes it, normally it would take only a week, but she said it should take longer now since it is the beginning of the semester and they are short staffed. Woes me.

Me and Mikel are doing well. I'm to the comfort stage now. A lot of the newness is gone, but he is still very exciting. I don't feel any reservations and don't think(over think) things as I would normally do. I'm just enjoying where we are and waiting for the next step, whatever that will be, when it reveals itself.

I talked to Heather this week, she's very excited. The guy she met here in Stillwater when she was visiting will be in Wisconsin the 2nd week of February. She's going to come down here in May again (and I think she's going to bring a friend) so that will be fun.

Me and Mikel are still planning on San Francisco for Spring Break, I just need to find out about my taxes and if I'm getting a refund before I know for certain that I can afford it. As it is now, I can't. But hopefully I will manage to get a refund like I had last year. My taxes have been so damn complicated. W2's from two states, 1098-I and 1098-T forms along with misc other crap. Ugh, frustrating. I miss the days of a single W2 and using taxcut.com.

Winter'ish Waste Land

Wednesday, January 05, 2005 by Daren Darrow

Blah to this sleet/ice crap. I tried to get in my car just now, so that I could go home to shower, change clothes etc, but I can not even get into my car because the doors are froze solid.

I need to just start leaving clothes here at Mikels. I practically live here anyway.

I quit Wal-Mart. Well I gave my notice anyway. I took a job on campus, making less money, but I think it will make me happier.

Back to planning our trip to San Francisco during spring break and looking into the possibility of a 2-week stay in Europe this summer (instead of the spring break trip)
