Meet the newest member of the family

cole

Meet the newest member of our family, Cole. We got him last night. He's about 6 weeks old and a cuddler. He enjoys prancing, meowing, purring, climbing and clawing.

Balthazar isn't taking the new kitten in the house thing too well. But apparently that's normal behavior for most cats. So for now, we have to keep Cole separated from Balthazar when we're not around and at night. It's going to be a LONG 2 weeks doing that.

He's got a vet appointment tomorrow for his first check up and shots. Let's hope all is well.

Spider-Man 3 cover

Tuesday, May 08, 2007 by Daren Darrow

This is the awesome Spider-Man 3 cover that the graphic department at the Contra Costa Times (another MediaNews Group company) did for us at ANG.

I managed to get a copy of the Illustrator file so that I could have my own copy (a poster) printed.

Here's a low res copy of the file for all to see. I think it's awesome, even if the movie isn't.

Take a hike already

Sutro Baths ruins - camera phone
Today before Mikel went to work, we decided to go to the beach. We ended up hiking around on some cliffs and discovered quite a few things.

The ruins of the Sutro Baths were awesome. They're less than 100 years old, but oddly look quite a bit older.

Here's an aerial view from Microsoft Live.

Sutro Baths ruins - arial view

There's this cool cave there, I don't know if it's natural or man made, that connects the baths with the rocky cliffs on the other side.

Before we went to the ruins, we were hiking part of the Coastal Trail. I climbed up some rocks and was looking down toward the ocean and noticed a backpack, partially wet towel and wet boxer briefs. This had intrigued me, since we had ran into this nervous-looking couple a few minutes before. They seemed to keep watching us to see if we were going to leave. We did. But we moved over to a different section, and a few minutes later we found them "heavy petting" as Mikel liked to call it. I just call it foreplay. We decided to leave them alone, but it gave me an idea for a date :)

About 40 minutes later, we saw them come over to the ruins. Mikel said, "That was fast (their assumed sex)." But I think I would be fast too if I were naked and on jagged rocks.

Work

So tomorrow is Christine, my boss, last day. She took a job at The Stockton Record. Priscilla, the only other person on The Argus copy desk other than myself, is leaving on the 20th. I'm all alone. :(

We've lost about 4 or 5 people in the last 3 weeks. So its crazy how short staffed we are going to be.

I applied for Christine's job, Senior News Editor, but I don't know if I'll get it. Apparently someone outside of the company has applied as well. I haven't been interviewed for it. But I assume that will happen this week.

Courtney's baby

Courtney had her baby this week. It was a little early, but not much. It was due on the 8th I believe. Mikel is flying out Monday to Oklahoma for a visit. I'll be here for a week by myself. I don't know what I'm going to do with my time. It's the first time we've been apart for more than a day since we moved here. And only the third time since we started dating. Odd.

Motorcycle

I've been thinking about getting a motorcycle again. I want one, but would I ride it year around? Rain? Cold? hmm, I don't know. I'd have to ride it then to justify the purchase. It's only $3,000 for a new one, so definitely cheaper than a car. I want a smaller one to start with. So I think I'll get a Kawasaki Ninja 250R if I get one. I need to look into taking classes first so I can get the certification on my yet-to-be acquired California drivers license.
